Hesston Fresh Food Town Hall

Hesston has been without a grocery store since 2018. With funding from the Kansas Healthy Food Initiative, United Way of Harvey and Marion Counties and the Healthy Harvey Coalition are beginning a research process to explore whether a fresh food market could be a viable and sustainable option for the community.

Before we launch the formal research, including community surveys, focus groups, conversations with local growers, and other feasibility work, we want to start by bringing the community together. 

During the Town Hall, we’ll introduce the project and what we hope to learn, discuss past grocery store efforts in Hesston, answer questions about the project and research process, and hear what questions or concerns community members believe should be considered as we move forward.

We also want to be clear that this is a question, not a promise. No decision has been made about opening a fresh food market, and the grant supports research and planning, not construction. Our goal is to conduct a thoughtful, transparent process and share what we learn with the community.
